Where is Slovakia?

Slovakia is a country which sits in the Middle of Central Europe. It is a landlocked country that is surrounded on all sides, and the country itself is comprised of 19,000 square miles. The countries which border Slovakia are Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Austria, and Hungary. Poland sits to the north of Slovakia, while both Austria and the Czech Republic sit to the west. Ukraine sits to the east of the country, and Hungary sits to the south of the country. The largest city in Slovakia is Bratislava. The country is a member of a number of organizations, and some of them include NATO, WTO, and the European Union.


History of Slovakia at a Glance

The Slavic people who live in this country first came here during the 5th century. Throughout its long history, the region which today is known as Slovakia was part of the Austria Hungary Empire and Czechoslovakia. The country didn't become independent until the early 1990s, and this was done peacefully through the Velvel Divorce. Geographically, Slovakia is known for being a mountainous country. The reason for this is because much of the country is comprised of the Carpathian Mountains, and this mountain range is prevalent in much of the northern part.

The Tatra Mountains also make up an important part of the Carpathian mountain range. These mountains have also made Slovakia an excellent destination for travelers who enjoy skiing and snowboarding. In addition to this, Slovakia is home to a number of impressive lakes and valleys. There are three important rivers which can be found in this country, and some of them are the Hron, the Danube, and the Vah. The climate of Slovakia will alternate between continental and temperate summers that are warm, and winters that are cold and cloudy.
