About Tatra Mountains

The Tatra Mountains comprise a range which forms a border between Slovakia and Poland, which sits to the north of the country. While parts of the Tatra Mountains can be found in Poland, much of these mountains will be situated in the Northern part of Slovakia. The largest peak within this range is the Gerlachovsky stit, which reaches a height of 2,655 meters. On the Polish side, the highest point is the Rysy, which stands at a height of 2,499 meters. The most populat parts of Tatra mountains are the High Tatras, and the Lower Tatras.

The Tatra mountains themselves are a part of the Carpathian Mountains. Many tourists who have hiked in this area have said that it is one of the most beautiful places in Europe, if not the world.
During the winter months, the Tara mountains become a popular destination for skiing. While these mountains are not as large as the Alps, they have a landscape which is similar. Due to the great accessibility that these mountains have, they are popular not just with tourists, but scientists as well. Winter sports have become wildly popular in the last decade, and some of the resorts which are frequented by visitors includes Poprad, Stary Smokovec, and Strbske Pleso.
